DJ International (High Fashion)

There are only two truly great labels that documented the birth of house from its home in Chicago: Trax and DJ International. Rocky Jones ran the local DJ record pool in Chi-town and DJ International grew from the pool, providing Rocky with a ready-made and vast cadre of raw talent from which to draw. He capitalised on it with glee, releasing early classics like ‘Promised Land’ by Joe Smooth, JM Silk’s ‘Music Is The Key’ and Sterling Void’s ‘Runaway’. Its halcyon period did not last and it was swiftly overtaken by the next generation of Chicago labels like Cajual, but for the early excitement of raw Chicago house it’s almost unbeatable.
