Maxi

One of the underdogs of New York house music, Maxi still managed to do its best to compete with its better-financed rivals. Run by duo Claudia Cuseta and Kevin McHugh (who became Danny Tenaglia’s manager on the dissolution of the label), they had some successes notably with Sagat’s ‘Fuk Dat’, which was a minor hit in the UK (after it changed its name to ‘Funk Dat’ to help get airplay). Danny Tenaglia also mixed and edited several tunes on Maxi, the best of which was Daphne’s ‘When You Love Someone’, now regarded as a New York classic. Cevin Fisher’s acappellas, which formed part of a string of releases for Maxi, have also been sampled many many times.
