“Does Steven Ellison ever sleep?” asked one critic on the release of this follow up to his much acclaimed epic LP ‘Cosmogramma’. Only three months after this landmark release out of the West Coast avant hip hop scene, the LA producer dropped this EP, welcomed by some as his most accessible release to date. That’s not to say there is anything remotely commercial about the space jazz of ‘Clay’ and the brilliantly entitled, ‘Amen’ sampling, ‘Kill Your Co-Workers’ clocking in at just under 20 minutes it was perhaps a less daunting prospect than the epic and sprawling ‘Cosmogramma’. But really to enter the world of the Lotus is to be open to his whole trip and so this one is better consumed as a tasty side dish to its expansive predecessor. Essential nevertheless.
