Guru's original Jazzmatazz is one of the true great hip hop albums. Fusing jazz and hip hop in a masterful brew of story telling and deep beats, it is a genre-defining work. The Jazzmatazz Mixtape has all the hallmarks of a Guru album, from jazz interludes to Guru' iconic street-wise vocals. Yet while this is a Guru album, it is also an album of bangers rather than chillers. It sounds like golden era New York hip hop being played at a futuristic bloc party in Harlem. Another classic in a catalogue from a man who will sorely missed.
