Listening now to the back catalogue of Kieren Hebden’s Fridge reminds you of the creative flow of the mid ‘90s, when bands like this and micro labels such as Trevor Jackson’s Output Recordings, where the band resided, really were a breath of fresh air. As Jackson explained it was a time when “the dance press was all about Superclubs and DJs in Jacuzzis, and eclecticism meant throwing an acid track in with the latest Bentley Rhythm Ace hottie.” So watching a band like Fridge at the Big Chill weave there way through wonderfully free pieces of acoustic/electronic music like ‘Concert in Your House’ and ‘Lign’ really felt like an antidote to the overblown and vacuous mainstream. Innocent and timeless music from one of the true innovators of the last twenty years.
