Once Arif Marden became their producer on Atlantic, this soul group from Scotland, with only two black musicians, could 'dee nae wrang'. Despite the drummer dying at a Hollywood party in a scene reminiscent of Pulp Fiction (he sniffed a huge white line, assuming it to be cocaine but it was the purest heroin), the following album, ironically-titled Cut The Cake went on to be one of their best. Tracks like 'Cut The Cake', 'School Boy Crush', and 'I'm The One' are timeless AWB funk sounds. AWB reached the white market without losing credibility with the core soul/R&B lovers. Tartan funk at its best.
