Beer picks....and there's plenty to choose from, and all damn good:

Bridgeport Brewery/Pub/Restaurant - 1313 NW Marshall
Rogue Distillery & Public House - 1339 NW Flanders
Laurelwood Public House & Brewery - 2327 NW Kearney (website says it's shut for a remodel at the moment, but is re-opening "in the Spring", so you may want to check....?)
Roots Organic Brewing - 1520 SE 7th
Deschutes Brewery Portland Pub - 210 NW 11th

....and McMenamins Pubs are all over town, but my favourites for atmosphere are:
Market Street Pub - 1526 SW 10th
McMenamins Tavern & Pool - 1716 NW 23rd

Now go and get yourself leathered! Smile

Was there recently. Couldn't find any proper disco-house record shop.
Been to quite a few record shops though.
My advice:
- avoid the 2 jackpot records shops, small and expensive
- avoid the 2 everyday music shops, lots of cds and lps but very little disco
- music millenium is very good, very nice shop, very good feeling there. Not much disco though.
- mississipi records is good too. Small but large choice is r&b-soul. No electronic music there.
- Crossroads music on SE Hawthorne is really huge, large choice of soul and a bit of disco. Good prices. Nice shop. And SE Hawthorne st is a really nice street.

Just discovered that, that might help you:

if you're there again, i work at a place called Platinum Records. it's the proper-disco house store you never found, hopefully it still will be by the time you make it there again.

i agree generally with your assessment above. i also sent fluke a PM.

I'm going to be in Portland next Wed.-Tues., so this thread's helping out a good bit. I notice it's over a year old, though. Anything new I should know about? Any good parties going on while I'm in town?

Thanks

I wouldn't call Platinum Records a "disco shop" per say. It has a front room with records (maybe 30 bins?) and a back area with DJ equipment, or at least, it did when I went there in 2011. The music styles vary between Techno, House, and other contemporary styles, plus some older records of soul/disco/R&B variety. It's still a good store and worth checking out for dance music lovers.
