Warp

One of the landmark labels of modern British electronic culture, it began life releasing white labels of Sheffield producers (the city where it began life). Formed by the late Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett, they became synonymous with the ‘bleep’ sound of Sheffield a proto-techno hybrid of techno that owed as much to city forebears like Clock DVA and Cabaret Voltaire as it did Derrick May. Subsequent to this, though, it has moved into the far reaches of dance music, releasing early music from Aphex Twin, Two Lone Swordsman and Finnish eccentric Jimi Tenor. These days they are responsible for anything from the glitch hop of Flying Lotus to the neo-soul of Jamie Lidell.
