Wackies is an American independent record label specialized in reggae and dub music. Founded in the 1970s by Lloyd Barnes as the Wackie's House Of Music in New York. It’s often regarded as the first studio of any note in the USA, Wackies music has a distinct ‘lo—fi’ sound, achieved mainly by using antique pieces of recording kit. As well as notable Jamaicans such as Horace Andy and Sugar Minott recording for the label, they developed a number of NYC-based acts including Love Joys, Clive Field Marshall and Dub Generals. A band known collectively as the Bullwackie All Stars did most of the studio work.
