What is there to say about Larry Sherman’s label? There right at the birth of Chicago house, Sherman, the owner of a pressing plant, was perfectly placed to exploit the music coming out of the city. Anyone who had the talent (and quite a few who didn’t) released music via Trax: Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle, Larry Heard, and Mike ‘Hitman’ Wilson. The list is pretty endless. Its halcyon years span from 1985 through to about 1990 (with a few moments after that). About half of the all the early Chicago house classics came out through Trax during this period with only DJ International as a serious rival. The label and its owner have been subject to various rumours over the years, but no one would doubt the amazing quality of the music he released.
