Based above the Soho store (which is also part of the company) Sounds of the Universe, Soul Jazz has been releasing catalogue albums since the 1990s, with a particular emphasis on reggae, ska, soul and funk, though they have widened their remit over the past ten years to include post-punk stuff like ESG, the leftfield songs of Arthur Russell as well as a recent compilation of funky Krautrock, Deutsch Elektronische Musik. They have cornered the market in Studio One re-issues with a wide array of titles covering everything from reggae cover versions (Studio One Funk) to the music of Jackie Mittoo (Keyboard King At Studio One).
