Junior Boys Own grew out of the ashes of the Boy’s Own crew’s ill-fated London Records deal which yielded some Bocca Juniors singles, a few license deals and not a great deal else. Smarting from the experience, they gathered their pals together and struck gold with early releases by Black Science Orchestra (Ashley Beedle), X-Press 2 (Rocky, Diesel and Ashley), Roach Motel and Fire Island (Farley and Heller), as well as nurturing Underworld and the Chemical Brothers. It continued to maintain the quality control right through the 1990s and into the early noughties and, at its height, managed to release chart hits as well as underground tracks without losing its hipster status. Aongside 2020 Vision and Zedd Records probably owns the strongest back catalogue of British house music.
