The Furtive 50, 2010: The Interviews

Storm Queen (Morgan Geist)

Morgan Geist is half of disco agitators Metro Area but released, 'Look Right Through' this year's numero uno track under his Storm Queen moniker. We asked him the questions that you are all itching to know the answers to including has he ever hung out with a Queen in a storm and what is his stance on bluegrass covers of hip hop tracks.

DJH: Hi Morgan
MG: Hi Mark, I’ve decided to answer your questions in the form of an homage to one of my heroes, Florian Schneider; in particular, his behaviour in the following Brazilian interview:

What would you say is the weirdest thing that has happened to you in the past year?
This.

What have been your favourite tracks this year? And you can’t choose your own?
None.

Is there any story behind how 'Look Right Through' came about?
Yes.

What are you most looking forward to in the next year?
Girls.

What are you least looking forward to?
Ageing.

This is called the Furtive 50, furtive means to do something with stealth or in secret… what is the most furtive thing you have ever done?
Grown.

Anything you regret from the last year?
Yes.

Give us a tip, who is gonna be big next year?
No.

There seems to be a big spate of bluegrass covers of hip hop tracks around at the moment. What hip hop track would you most like to cover/edit?
None.

What’s your favourite Christmas present you have ever received?
Jew.

Space Dimension Controller

Whether controlling other dimensions or making deep house records of distinction like 'Journey To The Core Of The Unknown Sphere', known to his mum as "our Jack" and living in Belfast, this 19 (yes, 19) year old is one of dance music's leading young guns from another dimension. Pay close attention.

What would you say is the weirdest thing that has happened to you in the past year?
I'd say the time I woke up in my Electropod after a gig in Manchester in August with an improvised phase dividing pistol and four empty bottles of absinthe. Even weirder was that I was in the middle of a forest somewhere in Asia. Heavy night.

What have been your favourite tracks this year? And you can’t choose your own?
Would be hard for me to say as I don't get much new music. First one that comes to mind is an unfinished track Al Boddika sent me called 'Pyramid'.

Is there any story behind how the track came about?
Shortly before I accidently sent myself back to your time in the year 2352, myself and Max Tiraquon were sweeping the quadrants and sectors for a galactic fugitive named Xesqon who was a high ranking officer of the Pulsovian fleet that invaded Earth in the year 2257. We received some intel that he was hiding within a large uncharted sphere just beyond the edge of the Tiraquon security barrier. Max and I searched the sphere for three days and found nothing. That environment was too inhospitable for anything to live, even a Pulsovian. It wasn't long before we returned to the sphere after a TSC deep space drone detected life within the sphere, but you will learn more of that when my album for R&S is released.

What are you most looking forward to in the next year?
Hopefully next year I will have restored the time travel capabilities of my Electropod and return to my own time to bring back my album for R&S. If not, you may be waiting a while longer.

What are you least looking forward to?
Explaining myself to the Tiraquon Security Council.

This is called the Furtive 50, Furtive means to do something with stealth or in secret… what is the most furtive thing you have ever done?
I had a short affair with Max Tiraquon's wife, but he died without even knowing a thing. As you may or may not know, love is forbidden in Mikrosector-50 and that is why I created the Love Quadrant as a place for me to bring women. For me it was just one night of lust, unfortunately for them they were looking for much more. Once I finished, I left them there to stop them compromising the security of the Love Quadrant or getting in my way back in Mikrosector-50. However, Max's wife was the only woman I ever felt anything for, which is why I created a second, more beautiful Love Quadrant just for us. Unlike the first Love Quadrant, she was able to return to Mikrosector-50 whenever she pleased. After Max died, I never saw her again. If I can find her, I will have alot of explaining to do when I return to 2352.

Anything you regret from the last year?
Space Dimension Controller's are trained to have no regrets and live only for the future. Ironic since i'm now living 3 centuries before my own.

Give us a tip, who is gonna be big next year?
I'll let you know once my time travel device is repaired.

There seems to be a big spate of blue grass covers of hip hop tracks around at the moment. What hip hop track would you most like to cover/edit?
Partners in Kryme - Turtle Power

What’s your favourite Christmas present you have ever received?
We don't celebrate Christmas in Mikrosector-50, but this year I received a thing called a hot horse which is like a soft toy you put in the microwave and it heats up. It has made my Electropod slightly cosier during these winter months.

If you could travel into space which planet would you visit?
I've been to most, but Earth is my favourite.

TBD

TBD are Lee Douglas and Justin Vandervolgen. This year they combined their creative juices and squeezed out 'Get To My Baby' the year's undoubted winner of "best edit, by an absolute mile". The pair tell us amongst other things, why they would play hide n' seek with Wonder Woman and how they came to be playing 18 holes with this year's label of choice.

How did you come to know the Original track of Get To My Baby?
Justin Vandervolgen: Jeremy from A1 here in NY, put me on to it

Is there any story behind how the edit came about?
LD: Justin had made the edit for his CD and gave me the file to play,I just wanted it to be a bit longer and get a little more silly.. so we made the extension and it became a TBD edit.

Try to Find Me could be another name for hide n' seek. If you could play hide and seek with any famous person who would it be and why?
LD: Wonderwoman, Why do you think? she has an invisible Jet

What are you most looking forward to in the next year?

LD: Not completely sure at the moment but hopefully TBD is a somewhat Furtive endeavor.

Anything you regret from the last year?
LD: Yes and no.

LD: You are gonna be big next year.
