Mrs is desparate to buy one, but looking at the specs it doesn't look as though it does much.

Should I try and persuade her to buy an ordinary laptop instead?

if i could find a dock with multiple connectors (basically something that would support multiple monitors and had plenty of USB slots along with thunderbolt, firewire maybe... etc.) i'd strongly consider it myself.

It does come with Boot Camp though, so if you're really into self harming, there's still no reason to feel left out

I looked at an Air when I started my new job about 18 months ago. Ended up going with a MacBook Pro as I wanted something with a bit more processing power for non-day-job stuff (i.e. audio and video - particularly the latter - although I've barely had the chance to do anything much on the creative side what with work and life stuff getting in the way since then..)

If all your missus wants to do is the usual desktop apps stuff, I'd say give it some serious thought. They are light as hell, and if you're going to lug it around at all, it's a lot less to deal with than a regular laptop.
