I spent a small amount of time in San Francisco in the late 90's and these guys seemed to be local dance music royalty (much like Farrna on the west coast generally) but I never really came across much of their music or heard any of them play.....

Presumably they produced some great records and had some good residencies ?

Scott seemed to garner more attention.....

Any pointers ?

ps: Presumably they played 1015 a bit but by the time I got to SF (97) they were but posters on the walls of the Western Addition carraige apts we plagued.......

Scott and Gavin are both still active, I'm in touch with Gav on a semi-regular basis. He is coming to the UK in July for the Stone Roses gig in MCR if anyone fancies having him DJ?

This is Gavin's bolg

Scott has had some health issues and had to undergo an eye transplant some months ago but he's on the mend. He's doing movie soundtracks and DJ'ing a bit

This was massive for us up in Nottingham at parties - Alex Traska had a copy of it and it used to KILL IT when this dropped in. I miss those days!

They did have a night called Pure Space that ran for a while.
There is a mix from Robbie Hardkiss here.

I do remember Scott playing Phil Collins on a boat party once, which seemed to really bother a lot of people at the time Smile

Love that one. I first heard it on the Electric Manor mix by Charlotte the Baroness that I used to rinse back then.

Ultraviolet Catastrophe, though not them, but on the label, was a huuuge west coast jam. As was, God Within - Raincry. Very west coast outdoor party type vibes (or at least the strongest memories for me).

Their mix on this is brilliant, but the cloth ears who upload to Youtube have everything but this on there.

Forgot this was them.

I have a friend (that has basically stopped DJing at this point), a schtick of his was to layer the raincry "cry" over mixes. I used to hear him do it at least once every time I heard him play.

I got a message overnight from a friend in SF. No news on the circumstances other than "unexpected".

Really sad news.

Talk about a brilliant mixtape!

Anyone hear them at Ministry? They played my alltime fave Funkadelic track (Brettinos Bounce) which I never thought I'd hear out, and then blew up the system with The Clash Top night Smile

Scott could write a decent pop/house tune too, if you ask me

Touchingly beautiful tribute from RITM:

Cookie - I saw some mention of a possible aneurism earlier today somewhere; not sure if that might be related to his eye condition. Tragic in any case... Sad

Yeah, I saw that too but didn't want to spread an unqualified rumour. Just the one comment suggesting it.

Yeah, really sad.

This is something I wrote a few years ago (unreleased), and happened to rediscover today, which owed a big debt to the time when I knew the Hardkiss Brothers, and to Scott's work specifically. Seemed like something I should share in his memory:
