Default AEROPLANE -> Resident advisor podcast 114

i was browsing around and found this on the regular music pages and seems like resident advisor is getting not that minimal thank goodness!

Aeroplane fly high with a set of disco pop in this week's RA podcast.

If Aeroplane didn't exist, it might've been necessary to invent them. Over the course of three singles for the Eskimo label, the duo has produced a spate of disco pop epics that sounds so perfectly formed that they almost have to be ripping off somebody. It's as if they're music already existed and Stephen Fasano and Vito De Luca simply picked it off a tree, shined it a little, and presented it to the world.

Aeroplane's DJing sounds much the same way. Effortless, we mean. As they prove on their RA podcast, there's plenty of low-hanging fruit of the nu-disco, nu-balearic, nu-pop variety around these days. And, instead of quick mixing trickology, the duo often lets these tunes play out almost in their entirety before moving on to the next one, offering you the opportunity to take a listen to some of their newest remixes (The Shortwave Set, David Rubato), as well as some other choice upfront music.

What have you been working on recently? Is there a release date for the full-length?

Last month we did remixes for The Shortwave Set ("Now 'Til 69"), David Rubato (“Circuit”), and MGMT (“Electric Feel”). Now we are working on our album, which, if everything works, will be released in April 2009.

Can you tell us a little about the idea behind the mix?

The mix is a selection of what you could hear when we play a DJ set in a club.

Where and how was the mix recorded?

It was recorded at home with two turntables, two CD players, and a basic mixer.

A recent compilation you were featured on was titled Nu Balearia. What are some of your favorite Ibiza memories?

I've never been to Ibiza. We are classified as "balearic music," but we do pop music. For us, Balearic is a feeling—not a style.

What are you up to next?

A lot of DJ sets (an Australian tour, UK, Ireland, Greece, France...) and, most importantly, finishing the album!

I'm really loving the Shortwave Set on here. Listened to this mix a few times, and it always pops out.

Even if it is a bit on the Euro shiny side.

Terrific this, Aeroplane never fail to deliver. Quite keen on that MGMT remix as well. We were bouncing around my mates flat on Saturday to Oracular Spectacular with a load of magic, great times. Decent little album they've got there.

I had a funny flashback moment after hearing it and knew that I remembered it from when I was younger, in fact I was crazy about it when I was younger because it featured a really ace video with robots playing violins on flying gondolas. These "robots" even made a played live on kids tv in dinner suits complete with the metal robot masks. People thought I was just making it up...but at least I have vaildation!! This is a joyous day

It is a reworking of this...
