What are the best solutions out there?

I have been looking at the Boss (Roland) Micro BR, which seems really simple and easy to use. http://www.roland.co.uk/products/productdetails.aspx?p=818

I am am keen to drive up quality over getting the cheapest option.

Thanks.

What are you using it for? Do you need the multi-tracking and built in rhythm patterns on that?

I'd recommend the Zooms if it's for some kind of field recording. this is a Sound On Sound review from 2009 so there's probably newer models.

from a fair bit of internet review reading, i just picked up a sony pcm-m10 ~£200

from what i could suss it's the last stop before it gets into daft money for recording. The line-in reviews as being decent and not noisy like some others plus the built-in mics are ok for mobile recording / found-sound

super easy to use even in the dark with no fuss dial for recording level or auto/limiter.

[bit less impressed so far with roland binaural mics - wonderful stereo image but quality not a patch on the unit's condenser mics]

Just bought a Zoom H4n last week. So far it's been great! Sound quality is sufficient, up 32GT SD-cards so you can record endless mixes even at 24bit. Easy to use too, and seems durable.
