So the cult leader had a new 12" out, just wondering what you guys think of it.
As usual with his locussolus 12"s I like just the one side, this time Telephone sounds ok me whereas Berghain isn't my cup of tea.
Whilst Telephone is ok I probably won't purchase this 12" as it doesn't really grab me enough, I wonder if there is a full vocal version.

Telephone: Lovely track... I've been playing it quite a lot. Perfect for Summer vibes.

I always like their concept. Main room and Lounge room. Both tracks are great in my opinion.

maybe I'm an outsider, but to me those tracks are normal, plain and a bit dull stuff... i.e., still going theme is far more "thumbs up". Imho, obviously, ha ha Wink

Well, "Berghain" to me is a massive club track, the sonic treatments in this gets me all goosebumped.
It`s the kinda track that goes "wrooOOOmppph" into the night.
A truly psychedelic, well-produced homage to the Berlin club ( and also one that will probably make most sense in a setting like that, or in any club where a bit of a tougher approach is appreciated )

I agree, I can totally imagine this in dark, smoke machine-filled club. It reminds me of the Chiapet stuff John Ciafone did. Can't wait to play it this weekend

Would love to know what Harvey's been listening to to inspire 'Berghain'...

it's definitely an original twist on the traditional Berghain sound, im sure i recognise one of the arpeggio sounds as a preset on some plug in synth (maybe z3ta?) though

Any chance you could elaborate on this? The term is new to me...

Sounds like a cross between Deniz Kurtel best of and Digweeds mix of The Rising Sun.

All in all an amazing club track that just takes you into the night.

haha yeah basically

the best way to get an impression of it is the berghain mix cds by the residents:
http://www.juno.co.uk/search/?quick_search_records=m_physical&q=berghain...

they do play a pretty wide range of stuff but i think the general impression of the 'sound' of berghain is fairly dark minimal techno. It's worth checking out some of the other releases on Ostgut Ton too (the label the club owns, and that those mixes are on)

sounds like someone trying their hardest to make a techno / minimal-esque track geared at ze germans with some random Nude Photo sample of that bassline and the end product being a bit meh! The b-side is ace! tho...

essentially its not very soulful.

*waits for the stoning*

I think "Berghain" sounds like if Eddy Grant`s "Time Warp" was a Berlin record made in 2012.
Yet again it`s a record that really needs to be heard / played in a club to make perfect sense ( as opposed to the flipside which could work both in club and home settings ).

I think that maybe some listen without prejudice is in order - just play it in a club and watch the reaction.... Massive record.

I only buy these Locossolus records out of some warped sense of loyalty.

Yes. I guess I should play it - it arrived last week and I haven't broken the shrinkwrap yet (I didn't even listen to the soundclip...).

Bork. Thanks for your answer.

Sorry, don' t me wrong, I like what the man does and how walks his own path etc but the track in question just sounds souless. Its got wooshy noises etc which will sound great on a half a ton of horse tranquillizers surrounded by other like minded horse tranquillizer users but in the context of home listening I reiterate its not very soulful as opposed to something by Luke Slater or Rob Hood.

So you bought it solely on recommendation and have no idea what it sounds like, despite owning it for a week...?

Why?

There's very little in life that can't be improved by placing a donk on top.

Hey man, I hope that doesn't linger... I wasn't phased by the challenge.

I do however ask myself why I still buy Harvey's music. Just because I was fortunate enough to go to Moist a few times? I'm kicking myself because I spent nearly a tenner on a 12" when I maybe could have invested in a new Throne of Blood 12", a Dan Avery record, a Fairplay track... Still. It's done now and by the sounds of things 'Telephone' will sound ok at home. 'Berghain' won't.

Have a good weekend... Smile
