This seems to the message here in the UK Pav:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18192375

I don't think the comments about your Eurovision entry helped either.

Was going to post this link earlier but decided against as I knew someone else would Wink

It's obviously relative Pavel - we've equally got it going on in the UK with players (Terry, etc.) let alone supporters, massive 'sectarianism' in Scotland, etc. so any finger-pointing towards Ukraine should be massively qualified!

Sol Campbell is merely supporting the findings of an investigation from a somewhat-respectable UK-based investigative programme called Panorama, which "spent a month filming at matches in both the joint host nations and witnessed Nazi salutes from the terraces, black players being taunted with monkey chants, rampant anti-Semitism and a vicious assault on a group of Asian students."

Haven't seen the programme but the video via the link above would probably (I would hope...) be plastered all over the UK national press if it occurred here.

Interesting timing....I predict an objective, good-spirited debate in the offing Wink

It is interesting to hear it from the other side Pavel. Always important to hear all sides of the issue.

from the other side I don't think England will manage to qualify group stage this time so maybe it's no reason for british people to go really

No doubt!

But as for the better nations that will be there longer, it's a conspiracy? If so, what's the objective? The BBC are massive twats sometimes, maybe Panorama needs to look at its own house's order more often but...?

I'd love to go to Ukraine by the way. Equally I'll be avoiding the London Olympics even though I live 25 mins train ride away from central London, so I would understand why other 'nations' might avoid it too, for whatever reason.

Good to hear that things are getting better. I predict that England will lose to France, draw against Sweden and beat Ukraine Tongue but still go out in the group stage.

As a swede i am hoping we will make it beyond the group stage but highly doubt it. Ukraine won´t make it either. England and France will win but England is not gonna make it very far anyways. I guess France has got a good chance. Nobody expects much from them yet it is a very good team. Holland, Germany or Spain will win.

Italy have just started another match fixing enquiry in time for a major international tournament. It seem like they need one to get motivated to play well.

I think it will be Germany as winners. It's boring, but they have great players in many positions and a great coach.

Maybe PM Mario Monti is coming out of his supposed technocratic (great word Wink) shell and becoming more motivational - he's quoted as saying today,

"I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to suspend the game for two or three years. It's particularly sad when a world which should be an expression of the highest values - sport, youth, competition, fairness turns out to be a mass of foul play, falsehood and demagoguery."

However, Mr Monti acknowledged that his suggestion was not "a proposal by the government but a question I am asking".

Good question for what it's worth Hat

I quote...

"UK government ministers are boycotting England's three group games in the European football championships over Ukraine's treatment of a jailed opposition leader.

The move is in protest at the "selective justice" being handed out to Yulia Tymoshenko.

Attendance at later matches, such as the final in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, is to be kept "under review".

Other EU leaders have threatened to boycott games over the issue.

Ms Tymoshenko played a key role in the Orange Revolution in 2004 and says her imprisonment is an act of political revenge by Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych.

The authorities have rejected Ms Tymoshenko's allegations. She was jailed for seven years in October, for abuse of power during her time as prime minister.

Last week, she ended a 20-day hunger strike after being moved to a hospital in Kharkiv where she is being treated by a German doctor.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "The government fully supports England's participation in Euro 2012.

"We hope this is a successful tournament for the England team, the fans, and the people of Ukraine and Poland.

"No ministers will be attending group games at Euro 2012.

"We are keeping attendance at later stages of the tournament under review in the light of ministers' busy schedules ahead of the Olympics and widespread concerns about selective justice and the rule of law in Ukraine."

Gave the game the swerve. We're in Koh Samui and the local MacMurphy's plastic Irish bar had it on but the clientele looked like an ASBO day out so stayed by the pool with the pretty people sipping cocktails, 1-1 get in, defending our way to the European title? I will continue not watching the games in a vain attempt to not really give a shit..

The Germans are massive, not that that necessarily means great footballers but I reckon they'll be hard to beat - (as usual then I guess...)

Not very fun being swedish today. We were in the championship for 5 minutes, yippie. Losing against Ukraine makes you wonder what the game against England will look like and even worse France. So depressing Sad

Chin up mate. England are quite adept at chucking it all away too.

Pretty gripping tournament so far I think.

Enjoying the tournament so far.

Good:

-Alan Parsons Project "Sirius" being played in the stadiums before kick off. Hell yeah!
-Pavlyuchenko's goal in the first game (crap defending, mind).
-Hodgson's level-headedness. Seems like a bright chap.
-Spain realising that strikers can be quite useful.

Bad:

-The German announcer's call-and-response thing. "Mario!" "GOMEZ" "Mario!" "GOMEZ" etc. sinister crowd politics associations, haha.
-Russia / Poland violence (wtf? in 2012?!)
-Holland in general. Expect them to lose the third game too.
-Mark Lawrenson's persistent whining.

The Billy Smart's Circus Ringmaster style substitute/stadium announcements
ITV

bring back the Vuvuzelas..

Have been enjoying the games so far, watched the last two England games in a local pub, bit too much though, had to put up with people punching things all around us when England scored, including the ceiling... judging by the state of the pub that's gonna end in tradegy. The pizzas at half time were good though.
