Words only dj's seem to use (at least in writing on forums)..

On here I see "tackle" and for the under 21 crowd the word "drop" seems to be bigger than Elvis.

Any others?

Calling tunes 'dope'.
Saying 'I'm playing with DJ So & So' like it's f*cking kindergarten.
Calling DJ's 'pioneers'. Show me the first one to play at the South Pole and I might just be impressed.

Oh man.

Don't get me started... Smile

Calling tunes 'jams'. Don't think I've ever heard anyone who isn't a DJ call a piece of music a 'jam'

Among my friends years ago (back when we put on parties Sad ), if you were playing the "bum-slot", you'd been given 10-11.30 or something, i.e. when there was no one there.

haha! very true - only djs and old jazz musicians. i remember when i worked at swag, if there was a tune we liked, we'd all stand around and say stuff like ''yeah man, that's ruff''. Smile

people using american hip-hop vernacular despite being 100% NOT american: dope, ill, sick, jam, joint, werd, shit is bad etc

i think we're all guilty of succumbing to the odd bit of american slang. i frequently answer the phone with 'yo' for some reason, despite not being a rapper. but guys i hear talking like they grew up in LA or New York when in reality they come from a leafy, south dublin suburb: shit drives me crazy, yo.

i like saying 'give it a bit of welly' when i want someone to turn up the volume.

i'd like to make this more prevalent

Funnily enough Trevor Rockliffe is playing in Sydney this weekend. Or as the bill posters are saying "British techno pioneer Trevor Rockliffe". That one had me scratching my head. I thought he was just a DJ whod been around a bit.
