It seems that with the editing gear becoming available to all, everyone is doing there Mashups :-\

What are some of your old and new favourites, you know one with a little thought gone into them as opposed to accapella / beats scenario(sp)

I'll start - Edie Brickell and Soul II Soul ( whcih in effect is just accapella / beats ), Oh well you get my drift.

cheers

rob

I have a tasty little 10" called 'The Way' which is very tasty booty by a DJ Lucci, that mixes up 'The Way we Used to' vocal by Cevin Fisher, with loads of early Todd Terry samples - works really well.

Rob that's my fave too!
I really like 'I Wanna Dance with Numbers' by Girls on Top (Richard X), i.e. with Whitney Houston vocals over Kraftwerk. Works really well.

Well surely it has to be Candi Staton - You Got The Love meets Frankie Knuckles Your Love... although I really like the (sort of) follow up by the Rhythm Doctor - Phuture 'Slam' meets Art Of Noise 'Moments In Love'... and there's a great Freddie macgregor house mix on the flip of that one too.

The one with the best reaction that I've done 'on the fly' as it were is Cassius - La Moche with Jungle Brothers 'I'll House You' Acapella...

A cheesy but funky one is the Cluedo one with a mix of Prince's Kiss/Kraftwerk and White Lines.

Also the Cluedo version of 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' played to devastating effect at the Faith Boat party a couple of years ago (by Ross Allen if memory serves me correctly)
One's best avoided....the booty of Genesis 'Mama' with Voices Inside My Head/Last Night A DJ Saved My Life on the flip.

The old balearic beats volume 2(or is it 3?) booty eh! The genesis thing on it is dogshit but used to hammer the police/indeep side.... ;)

Volume one was the lp on london records..think coz there was never a volume 2 someone did there own take..on the other 12 is mr mister - broken wings(or it might be an italian cover)..terrible anyway. Also on are sister sledge - thinking of you(dmc mix) which is wicked and Babakoto "just to get by" which is just stupid..not really worth hunting down really unless you need another record you`re never gonna ever play......

Kasio Kid's remix of Prince's 'When Doves Cry' is good, also Pepe Deluxe vs Sugarhill Gang 'Woman In Blue' always gets em shufflin...

Muskmen - "Never Thought I'd See The Day" - been a big tune down this way for eight years now... Nicky Holloway was the first to play it out here oddly enough, top moment.
i'm a shocker for 'on the fly' mixes... Indeep over the top of "Like I Love You"... "The Real Slim Shady" over "Da Funk"... "Shook Ones Part 2" over "Barcelona" or "LK"... i still get the biggest reaction for mixing the extended version of "Lovecats" over the end of Mary J. Blige "Family Affair"... you still can't beat "Rave Generator" with "Fever Called Love" though ;)

Muskmen - "Never Thought I'd See The Day"

Love this version of Sade, It has for want of a better word some balls ( apart from the trippy bit at the end ) compared to the glut of remixes that have come out lately......there are some nice ones mind.

The other side to the said record is ace to.

cheers

rob

i have a soft spot for superstition/good times, that old club house track. in fact, was this the first such 'mash up'?

couple of on the fly favourites

get ur freak on over no diggity instr - cue missy at the right place (after the second piano stab if memory serves me well) and they fit perfectly

acca of 'lazy' or 'outro lugar' over the instrumental break of where love lives

and (only tried this pissed) 4 my people acca over god helps those... instr by gospelaires of dayton ohio
sterling void (Its alright) vs the clash (casbah) is nice...

on the fly... Terence Parker - Emancipation of my Soul with DT Elements 'The Voice' accapella over the top... :)

him and Layo have done some great stuff over the years - i really loved "Chorus" from a few years back for the sheer cheese of that call-the-AA-it's-another-breakdown - but they need some new drum samples/patterns... every track has that same sub-garridge hi-hat thing going on... i did quite enjoy the new mix CD they've got out, that Sha-Lor track is always a nice moment.

indeed it is. they've got some nice oldies on that mix, Fast Eddie "Acid Thunder/YoYo Get Funky" mashed together quite nicely, dunno about the Psychedelic Reseach Lab "Tarenah" though, such a nancy tune.

Talking of Booties I'm really liking that Stephen Marley/ Paul Simpson mix of Masterblaster around at the moment...and I'm completely over Marley and Wonder house records generally, but I love the bit where it goes into the old Chi-town piano break
