With the exception of Ladyboys finest in the wonderful Praxis what else can people out there recomend as a must have for the collection ? 'Deep and Sexy vol 1' on Wave impressed me, which I bought as a result of seeing Francois K play an outstanding set at the Big Chill festival this year. C'mon get your two pence in !! :)

I've got a real soft spot for The Prodigy's "Dirt Chamber Sessions" - that is one great CD that brings back some wonderful memories.

If you like the disco side of things then both the Kenny Dope / Disco Heat and Larry Levan / Live At The Garage are well worth tracking down.

'A Taste of Cajual' mixed by Mark Grant has a brilliant selection of really nice early/mid nineties Cajual tracks on it. I have never seen the CD other than on ebay but it's well worth picking up for anyone into Chicago house. I like the two 'Future Sound of Chicago' CDs on Cajual aswell, particularly the first one. Also Larry Levan 'Live at the Paradise Garage'.

Two that I have enjoyed that spring to mind are Dimtri from Paris "Live at the Playboy Mansion" ... Tom Middleton "Cosmos" Synchronicity or what ! I've just been out this lunchtime trying to find a mix-cd as a present for a mate .... Will def. follow on from your recommendations ... Mix-CDs - Def a "good" product of the 1990s ...

I'm sure the "Journeys By DJ" series came out before that...... seem to remember Danny Rampling's version coming out around 1992/93....?

Nice one Jolyon ! It seems "legit" mix-cd's caught on quite late really ... Listening to mix-cd's is still a relatively new pastime for me ... I do remember around '88/'89 picking up a few "booty" mix-cassettes from stalls in Camden market but it would appear they've all but disappeared of late ... Anyone else spot any knocking around lately ?

Looks as though JDJ preceded them by a year - 1993: http://www.journeysbydj.com/main.html Just been reading how the company basically shut down at the beginning of 1998, as they had a break-in, and EVERYTHING was stolen. What a sickener!!! Sounds obvious, but had they not heard of insurance??

Although not CD mixes Graeme Park used to sell tapes of the previous weeks Saturday night (Haçienda) back in 91. Some of these still sound wicked. lee

Nice on Andrew! Always liked the Journeys CD by Coldcut a lot. Used to get mixtapes at The Warehouse in Leeds from Nightmares On Wax back in 89/90 - fiver a pop! Wish I still had them now.

The FK essential collection is not to shabby ;) Couple of old Weatherall tapes... A Dean Thatcher tape which somebody half inched.....with a wicked versio of the "Odd Couple" theme music and the italian remix of Bille Jean i have been hunting for....... >:( Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz tapes and the 1st CD that came out on OM. cheers rob

The FK essential collection is not to shabby ;) Love that FK collection,,,nice and eclectic. Its been in my car since release as a standby. I'm not a big Mix CD person at all but I'm really enjoying the Chicken lips one on NRK and the second CD of Carl Craig's one on React earlier this year- but the bloody thing has no track markers which makes it fine for a long drive but a pain otherwise. Oh yeah, and the Weatherall / Lawson / Carter triple Back to Basics Tin from 96 is very cool.

big mix CD fan, me... my picks would be... currently: fabric - any of the last few months releases, esp the swayzak, bent, amalgamation of soundz and michael mayer ones kenny dope in the house - a recent one from defected, two excellent mixed ones and a bonus disc of MAW and Nuyorican 'rarities' and felix da housecat 'bugged out' the unabombers 'electric soul' andy smith - 'the document 2' the last half-dozen muzik mag mix CD givvies were ace too, the gilles peterson, cassius, dfa, mj cole and erol alkan ones were brilliant. and classics: mixmag live - sasha / cj macintosh (1992) mixmag live - darren emerson / dave angel (1993) journeys by dj - coldcut (1993) journeys by dj - justin robertson (1996) journeys by dj - gilles peterson & norman jay (1996) renaissance 1 - sasha & digweed (1994) dj kicks - kruder & dorfmeister (1995) cream - deep dish (1996) movement 2 - markie (2001) back 2 basics - derrick carter, ralph lawson & andy weatherall (1995) as heard on radio soulwax 2 - too many djs (2002) cheers :)

Kerri ‘Kaos’ Chandler – Kaos Theory Mix. The LLV in NYC Underground is still Hot, Hot, Hot... (artwork by Butch Quick ;)) The first Tony Humphries mix on King Street's mix this vibe was hot as well. Have to say that the lowlife CD is currently getting a good caning in my CD player too, it's brilliant. Managed to track down a copy of the Mandrake track towards the end of the mix which is pure percussive bliss !!

My good friend Etchey brought the Lowlife cd round for me to listen at the weekend and I spent Saturday night having a right good bop to it in the kitchen and there's some excellent scratching on it too ! Very nice indeed ! Other MIX-cds I have loved ... Faith's ... very nice indeed .. Norman and Gilles Treasure Island Mix from a few years back ... Have to agree also that FK Essential is fantastic ....

firstly - Jon Carter Live at the Social and (rather surprisingly) secondly - Modern Disco: Love it While it Lasts - which I think is a Ministry of Sound CD that I got free with Mixmag (dubious looks all round)

not mentioned already but top: Laurent Garnier's new 5xCD Mix is a beast, Harvey's Late Night Sessions and that Todd Edwards one with the shockingly likeable Celine Dion remix. Do like the Danny Rampling Decade of Dance CD for a swift trip down memory lane :)

I don't gave many mix CD's but one that I do have and thinks the nuts is Farley & Heller's Journeys' By DJ. Some nice studio effects that can't be done live included. Love the mix of The Fog's Been A Long Time. DC

I don't own that many official mix CD's, but one that I remember especially enjoying was: Cut Chemist meets Shortkut (version 1.1) 'Live At The Future Primitive Soundsession'. Nowadays I have only the covers since I lost the CD somewhere abt 3 years ago ??? Also, on the strength of 6 x 12" vinyl release and his quality behind the decks, I'd say that Laurent Garnier's 'Laboratoire Mix' on React is a perfect choice for any house / techno head out there.

Only recently discovered it was James Holroyd of Bugged Out. Afraid the only tape I have from then is the one of Ali Cooke. Sorry, No worries - never went to the Music facory but did pay a couple of visits to the Mint club which was a cool little venue. Great city Leeds, used to go to the Warehouse too which was good in it's day. cheers Andrew
