As an avid eBay scout, it's interesting to note that not very many house records fetch large amounts. The only ones that I've seen which are capable of breaking the US$100 mark are:

Moodymann - U can dance if u want to
Blair - Life (Derrick Carter DMC mix)
Ce Ce Rogers - Someday
Romanthony - Let me show you love
Chicago Connection - Dancin'

Certain Carl Craig records such as 4 Jazz Funk Classics tend to go for decent amounts, as, bizarrely enough, do lots of Hardkiss records.

Would be interested to know what other house records are considered very rare or valuable.

Well, the obvious ones are Sasha and Digweed. Stuff they've been associated with, stuff they've made, stuff they've played, stuff they've mixed (incl. mix CDs). In fact, I think Jolyon of this very board may well have got a tidy sum for some Sasha collectibles a while back.

The stuff iv'e seen on E-Bay go for $$$ are the rarer early 90's nortern stuff 90/91 as played by the likes of Sasha.

Take this as an example

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2555157553&category=15 81&rd=1

Some that spring to mind....

Phantasy Girl - the SRO 12" not Nu-Relics one
Moodymann - first 2 KDJ releases seem to go for silly money...KDJ#1 'Moody Trax EP' went for something daft like $400 on ebay,or so i'm told.
Sasha stuff.
Carl Craig 'The Climax'...the retroactive one

It would be interesting to see if the seller actually gets paid!

The most I ever got was £80 for Link's 'Symbiotic' EP - nice business.

Carl Craig's 'Suspiria' EP on Retroactive went for $420 about 16 months ago.... Harvey's Black Cock & Weekend boots always fetch decent sums too
820 snots! :o Are there disco records that fetch that much?

Plenty. I don't watch eBay myself, but I always get sent the comedy bids by people who do. The two biggest to date I can think of are Barrabas' 'Woman' which sold for over $2,000 recently and Denise Lasalle's 'I'm So Hot' promo 12" - admittedly the latter took many (including myself) by surprise as we always assumed there was no 12" of it. Made more ridiculous by the fact that the LP has always been worth 50p on a good day - and the 12" version's no different! Er... ;D

Q's:
Moodymann - U can dance if u want to
izzat the double-pack with the mingers on the labels?

Blair - Life (Derrick Carter DMC mix)
don't DMC keep reissuing this one? i picked it up quite easily in the real world not long ago...
Very Ape

'U Can Dance' is indeed the doublepack with the kebab-shots on the label.

As for Blair - Life, it was recently re-released on some kind of semi-official looking white label together with a Charles Schilling mix - I picked up a copy myself, having sold my original DMC copy which comes with an unattractive purple sleeve.

I like the vocal but I'm not too keen on the track itself to be honest.

As for these ridiculous sums for records. Are they bought as investments or just by people with waaaaaaaaaaaay too much money?
Sean P
09-17-2003, 12:16 PM
There's a Moodymann double pack from about 3 years ago which had a P-Funk/Prince-type influence and naked women pictured on the labels, which got dissed by many at the time, but was selling for over £100 fairly recently. I can't remember what it was called - what's the title, anybody???

so what is the most anyone on here has paid for a 12". Myself, it was $70 for the Mo Wax Le Funk Mob / Carl Craig double 10" to replace my stolen original. Way too much but it was a crisis- I need to own that record and saw it on Gemm and clicked impulsively.

"U Can Dance" is a nicely-done cut-up of Prince's "All the critics love u in New York". The labels are pretty revolting though.

Talking of expensive Disco records, I recently acquired an original UK 12" promo of Mandre's "Solar Flight" (it's on the B-side of Dynamic Superiors "Nowhere To Run") from 1977 on Motown. Condition is probably Near Mint, if slightly short of this.

I've never seen a copy for sale anywhere - not eBay, not dealers list, nothing. I spoke to one dealer a few weeks ago and he indicated he could sell it to an overseas buyer (Japan specifically) for around the £400 mark.

Does anyone know if this amount is a good indication of what it should fetch? Sean, I imagine you may have some valuable input on this one.

Peace.

Andrew

Andrew, make that 'gargantuan boo-boo' -
- the last copy I saw, I put out in SADE for £8! This was around 3 years ago, though. I know a collector who maintains he will give me ANY record I want for it and this guy's got better tunes than me. Day-am.
Andrew@6MS
09-17-2003, 02:55 PM
So I presume it's worth a few quid then?? ;D

Thing is, I doubt I'll ever sell it. Not only is "Solar Flight" one of my absolute fave tunes of all time, but the Dynamic Superiors tune is an absolute cracker.

you're right bill - i made a bit of a killing on old sasha favourites a few years back on ebay. Tracks like Fishbone Beat - Always and Solar Plexus - Solar Plexus went for £40/£50. I sold the remix of Kites to some foolish japanese chap for 40 odd as well.

Original of Better Days by Jimi Polo i sold for a lot too.

most i've paid for a house record is £20 for De Lite feat Oscar Child - Wild Times (Mayday Remix) - that was back in 1992 before all this interweb malarkey.

most for a disco record i think is 30 odd for Funk It Up by The Sweet.
Cheers Bill. I'll have a good look later. Have to admit my eBay activity has tailed off a lot this year, but always good to keep a track of what goes on.

What's been your experience of eSnipe? Is it reliable?
What's been your experience of eSnipe? Is it reliable?

Yeah - I've always used auctionstealer. Set the snipe for 10 seconds et voila.

Of course, it only bids what you tell it too and if anybody bids higher...blah blah.

But just about everybody I knows uses a sniper tool. It allows you to queue up a bid for a specific item, without anybody knowing that you're watching the item.....unlike if you putin a first initial low bid, or whatever.

In the current climate, it's essential.

Sometimes the patches slow your computer down even further! Stand up, patch 841193...
