Mel Sheppard's not Italian, surely? I thought the record was from Brooklyn.

As you're Kassoed up, Bill, why not have 'Key West' & 'Kasso' by them too?
How's about Fascination 'Out To Get You' (good boogie from '84)
5 Sinners 'Magic'
Koxo 'Srep By Step' which we put on the last 'Disco Spectrum', which is good fun.
Spence 'Get It On' (minor club hit from '83, kinda corny but cool.)
K.I.D. 'Hupendi Muziki Wangu'
Armed Gang 'Love Shot'

That K.I.D.'s awesome (and been sampled on more than one house tune, too). I really like Don't Stop by the same band, though it's a bit more cheesy than Hupendi. OK, it's a lot more cheesy. ;)

'Number One' by them was quite big here, that was OK as well, though 'Hupendi...' was a little unusual.

Ago's 'You Make Me Do It' was a good Italian boogie track with an iffy vocal. Touche's 'Just Like A Doorknob' is one of the better ones from that era...or maybe they were French....

I wasn't sure about the Touche, as I've only seen it on Italian labels. I have a Touche LP somewhere that's French-Canadian (I think) and is pretty lame. Wonder if these are the same guys who had a record on Emergency?
Another, better known goodie is Natasha King's 'AM-FM'.

Anybody know any other records about doorknobs?

Kano - I'm Ready is my favourite Italo cut and there's a great track called Ajeha (or something like that anyway) on the same album and on the flip of the 12 'Its A war' which sounds very much like EW&F
Doctors Cat - Watch Out is up there with Feel the Drive
Clockwork Toys - Do It Anyway You Wanna Do It is a killer cover of People's Choice
Stephany - Shame (instrumental) is a brilliant boogie tune
Clubhouse - Do It Again/Billie Jean (especially the instrumental) a handy bargain basement party starter
Tulio de Piscopal - Stop Bajon (Primavera) - Balearic innit? Bit like like Wang Chung.

did anyone mention Kelin & MBO yet? Or indeed, Change? Or Black Box?!

Insofar as its house made in Italy by an Itailan I guess its Italian house ;)

Had a bit of a "moment" when Ladyboy Mariner played Jestofunk at Lowlife in February... cracking stuff.

What about Funkmaster Sweat - Wicked Funk. Neither house nor disco but definitely Italian, wicked and indeed funk.

dodgy music but happy memories of shopping in Trax Flying, that shop in the Garage on Kings Road where the Conran restaurant is now and the one above a shoe shop in Covent garden - I think run by the Monkey Drum and Naked Lunch people respectively but I forget...

Paradise Orch - Colour Me
Mechanix- Get Down
Kasso - I Love The Piano (the remix that ripped off Eric B & Rakim)
Korda - Move Your Body
Chico Secchi - Keep On Jamming
Petra & Co Just Let Go (just the dub of course)

ooh I think that's enough mozarella for one day... now where's me tambourine?
While the bad Italo-house somewhat outweighs the good, there are some that still stand the test of time. To wit:

Don Carlos - Alone (fantastic!)
Steve Banzara - Black
DJ Ivan - Happy (Tribu Mix) (killer deep house from 91)
Jestofunk - I'm Gonna Love You
DJ Leroy - Boccachica (Dave Lee fave)
DJ Sasha - A Heavenly Trance (no, not that Sasha)
And that bonkers tribal record Our Father In Heaven that Danny Tenaglia used to play, that I can't remember the name of.
Jolyon
09-16-2003, 12:33 PM
Sasha Heavenly Trance is in my top ten house tracks I reckon. Never dates at all. With you 100% on Alone and Jestofunk.

A few more...

TNT - I Kill Love (bit dated now but rocked it back then)
Sined Rosa - I Don't Know What It Is (instrumental cover of Pete Shelley)
Tramp - Say No Dope (very silly hip house which marvellous chorus praising the joys of Cocaine - it goes straight into yer brain according to the song)
Rhythm Foundation - Let The Whole World Now (brilliant piano)
Axe Corner - Tortuga (rip off of Chime)

and...all time cheese favourite Keep Warm by Jinny.

kwanza posse - 'wicked funk' nothing like it for making the floor go chug-chug-chug :)
i'd completely forgotten about jestofunk 'i'm gonna love you' and guess f**kin' what... i go to find it for a listen and some nasty **** must've pinched it... sometime... in the last ten years... b*ll*cks.
i hate that. >:(

I think I've hung onto a fair bit of Itaian cheese just because it reminds me of good times wearing a flouncy laurence llewlyen bowen style shirt and a smile! One that's borderline between brillaint and terrible is Double D - Found Love.

Shame about Jestofunk going walkies... i heard its hard to find these days. Mind you with this new fangled interweb highway it might pop up, there seems to be a lot of itaialn's selling on ebay's disco section at the moment.

Took me bloody ages to find a new copy of Jestofunk after mine went walkies too! Finally tracked it down on a compilation (i know, but sometimes you have to settle for what you can get), 'Riviera House Tr'axx' compiled by Ricky Montanari'.
If I remember correctly it was from www.tunes.co.uk

a lot of great songs mentioned already,
but two songs that came to mind are;
Snaps Montigo - i'll cast my fate to the wind
Kiss Mich - Age
love it or hate it? hard to decide sometimes, but I guess that's Italo.
..and like mentioned already, a lot of things by Kasso, like the Jellybean Benitez mix on 'Key West'. I still have alot to learn on this genre so keep it coming!

Oh btw, Bill - do you fancy interviewing one of the guys out of My Mine? He's an ex of my Mum's (I've just discovered this)...
Apparently - the vocalist on "Hypnotic Tango" was one of the guys from FGTH.
Who knew, eh?

That's him in the middle... (my Mum's ex, not the FGTH vocalist).
