Not really surprising that the two teams at the top of the league and in the cl final are two of the biggest spenders.

I felt a bit of joy for Fulham...damn dug their heels in and won 3 away games on the spin. Fair play to Danny Murphy too, heard his daughter was in hospital the day before the game but he scored the winner. Very happy for Man U, only because I hate Chelski so much, let's hope you stick it to them in the CL too.

Don't forget Man U's triple, Leeds not getting promoted :)

Surely the Champions League is Fergie's last chance to win at the highest level, for this reason alone I'm going with Chelsea and hope they win. :)

Hopefully then Abamovich will get bored with his little blue toy and buy a F1 team thereby spiraling the club into debt due to the massive wage bills.

A win, win if you will... :)

Make that a treble (and not a plastic one, mind), you forgot 'Stop' -something I don't think United are going to do when it comes to winning trophies in the coming years.

That perch of yours is looking pretty precarious ;)

If you take this season as a yard stick; we lost fewer games than Man U, scored 119 goals in all competitions (more than the other 'big' 3 managed) and if we'd of turned those two defeats around agaisnt Man U home and away we'd of been crowned champions.

So I feel quite safe on my rock solid perch thank you very much ;-)

How do you work that one out?

Liverpool finished with 76 points, that's 11 behind United, so even if you had beaten Utd home & away you would still have been 5 points behind.

Take six points of United's total (87 minus 6 = 81) and add six points to Liverpools total (76 plus 6 =82).

So Liverpool would have finished 3rd and Utd 4th?

Pointless argument. Liverpool failed to challenge for the title as they dropped 7 points against two of the relegated teams.

We are a lot closer than what people give us credit for. The spine of our side has never been stronger. Our youth and reserve sides are better than they've been in years. We're closing the gap on the sides above us year after year, despite spending a fraction of what they have in the transfer market. We've won The European Cup and been to another final. We've been in 3 European Cup semi finals in the past 4 years. We've won the FA Cup and had some of the best days and nights of our lives. Thank you Rafael Benitez..!!

Spend wisely this summer. Improve our squad with quality out wide. That title could be ours. :beerchug:

As a fellow Liverpool fan, I love your optimism. I also agree that we're closer than a lot of people give us credit for. I'm just worried that with our internal struggles with G&H, the money isn't going to be there over the summer. Utd however will be spending big and Chelsea have just spent 16 odd million on a full back ffs

Granted he hasn't got the spending power of Chelsea or Man U but he hasn't done bad so far. I just thank me lucky stars that he is still manager after all that turmoil in the boardroom. Rafa is the man to take us on to number 19.

Bloody hell, still not used to this sport ghetto on DJH.

Many congrats to Utd. - thoroughly deserved. We did really well to get as close, particularly after the start we made to the season. Having said that, we got close by grinding out results while playing a lot of deeply ugly shit. However, the last few games we've shown real signs of starting to play some good football. Roll on the final, it could be a cracker.

Very pleased about Fulham staying up. It really reminded me of when I was a kid and Fulham did the escapology thing season after season in the old First Division. Sorry about Reading though - I have a lot of time for Steve Coppell. They sold Sidwell to us in the summer and he's played fuck all this season. He should have stayed at Reading and got regular games. Still, I imagine his bank manager disagrees.

As a fellow Liverpool fan

me too, and i like to think a realistic one - which is why i think contador has been on the booze

we aren't going to win the league unless there are at least two more TOP quality signings (i'm talking torres quality)

our squad is good, but the strength in depth compared to men utd/chelski is seriously inferior

plus rafa continues to frustrate in the league with his constant tinkering. i think if he had played his strongest 11 more often then it could have been a slightly different story. although having said that, the champions league is where the £££ is so it's a catch 22 really

aah well.

Next season Rafa should stop the tinkering and have a solid go at the League until it becomes obvious whether they are in with a chance...or not.

at the top the points are even more precious and Liverpool dropped crucial ones this season when Rafa tinkered. I think the Birmingham game (was it?) when he decided not to play Torres even though the boy had just got into his stride in the prem. It took him a couple of games to get it back but by that time some valuable points had been lost.

Looking forward to Euro Championship though - roll on the long summer...

final decider was watching the mighty terriers get stuffed 5-1 by shrewsbury on a saturday then seeing UTD beat Barca 3-0 one night in 84. A season ticket soon followed....

It took him a couple of games to get it back but by that time some valuable points had been lost.

Ferguson left Rooney out four times this season and on them four occasions they lost. Not once through the season did I here any ex-pro on the box calling Fergie a 'tinkerer' and I never seen him being slagged off in the press either about his 'tinkering', but it seems Benitez leaves torres out for one game and gets singled out as the 'tinkerman' in the media (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/05/13/quote_early_quote_often_sells.html).

I can't be arsed looking back over old posts on some Liverpool board I go on, but there is an excellent article dispelling the myth about Rafa's rotation policy.
