Well, that was quite possibly the worst game of football I've ever seen.

Ever.

And I've seen some shit games.

luckily it wasn't on over here (estonia) finnish tv had the pool game the night before . i was looking fwd to last nights game. (it was in the pub of course but thats far away & we're +2 hrs)

not even any highlights on sky news, cnn, eurosport.was it that bad? i guess whoever bought the rights were just playing awkward bggrs.

but both ties are perfectly set up for nxt week.

i reckon l'pool chelsea goes to pens & man u will need to score at least 3 to progress as barca sneak an away goal.

The first shot on target was in the 83rd minute.

ronaldo missed a penalty.

iniesta fell over a few times.

that was it.
that's the highlights right here.
grim.

So was I..

Man U were there for the taking, so what did Barca do?

Start to play like Scunthorpe Reserves.. :)

A Barcelona fan writes

given the turmoil around the club in recent weeks - (civil war, league collapse, clashing egos, mutiny etc) and the real pessimism in the spanish press ahead of the game, I thought FCB played extremely well, unlucky not to win.

just got me tickets for tuesday at £45 a pop so they better buck their ideas up.

thing is, if ronaldo would've scored the penalty and utd won one nil, all the pundits/papers etc would say it was a "classic euro away preformance" which in some respects it was. The italians have been playing like that for years, utd played like that in rome.

unfortunately Vidic's illness buggered everything up (along with ferguson's over cautious selection/gameplan) hargreaves or anderson in midfield next week with carrick and scholes, nani/ronaldo on the wings and rooney/tevez up fron instead of on the edge of thier own box and they might actually keep the ball together for more than 2 passes...

"if me aunty had bollocks she'd be my uncle" etc etc

Niles, it was 1st leg of a semi-final, away from home.
What did you expect?
It'll be a Utd Vs Chelsea final which Utd will win.
They'll also do the double over Chelski i'm afriad...

I thought United played into Barca's hands by playing so slowly and defensively. It was an incredibly slow placed game by premiership standards - a bit too slow for United I thought, who found it a little hard to adapt from their usual 100mph game. i think united may get punished in the second leg for not even trying to score an away goal (penalty aside of course).

An entertaining spectacle between two of the best attacking sides in the world.

Talk about over-hyped!

Don't fancy Barca's chances at OT. Mancs - Chelski final.

''I thought United played into Barca's hands by playing so slowly and defensively.''

not that i saw it- but it sounds the opposite- that barca were kind of bored into mediocrity by united- they can do that when they want. risky bizniz but i feel they will triumph

Well, that's how I saw it. This Barca team is out of form and not great. I thought that playing this very defensive way allowed Barca to get too much into the match. Although, the missed penalty deflated United visibly after a very bright opening 2 minutes. It was and is risky by United - but they back themselves to score at least 2 at home.

I think that United showed Barcelona too much respect and defended too deeply. They set up for a 0-0 and they got it so as far as that goes it was a successful evening for them but teams are so often beaten by an away goal after doing that that I'm not sure of the sense in that strategy. Barcelona's defence looks pretty ropey though (United only had the ball in their half a few times and they forced two clear penalties and the best chance of the game for Carrick) and United have won their last ten or so at home in Europe so they've got to be favourites to progress, it's just I think that if they had been a bit bolder they could have been in a stronger position. Good for United that even though Barcelona had the ball the whole time they couldn't actually create a really good chance - their best two fell to Eto'o at the start of the second half but he looked a little tentative.

Not a great result. But seeing as United couldn't string more than 2 passes together they'll be pleased enough with that.

But Barca to go through with a score draw.

Bit late on this but I have to say i was disappointed with the Barca fans whistling when Man U were in possession. Most Barca fans i have come into contact with are so obsessed with the 'more than a football club' thing and yet they forget the very basic respect for other teams. They should've been whistling when Barca had the ball such was their inability to break Man U down even with 70% of the possession. That said Man U looked very nervous, i've not seen them play so badly for a long time. Not a good game.
