Thought it was about time we introduced a dedicated place for those classic mixes. So no taking the piss. Your mix from Romeo and Juliet's in Rochdale last Christmas Eve does not qualify. Tony Humphries? Yes! DJ Fuckwit? No. Junior Vasquez? Yes! DJ Pants? No.

What about DJ Pants vs DJ Fuckwit? In their classic "boxing ring" match. Squaring one on one, playing their hits and each others.
Classic.

Cava or champagne?
Pavel, it's not hard. Some are chosen - others just follow.

yes, and his StopDontStop mix
which, btw, still holds one of the unsolved mysteries of our time :p

To be honest, the purpose of it is to put old classic mixes in one place so people can easily find them. Mixes of historic interest. Some of the ones added in past week are a bit iffy in my view.

what's a classic mix ?
rule 1 :
if's originally recorded on cassette, reel to reel or DAT
then it's a classic mix
rule 2 :
if the dj isn't still alive anymore nowadays then it's a classic mix
rule 3 :
if there's no tracklist and dj refuses to id any tracks (maybe because of rule#2)
and the top ten of djh members don't know the tracklist,
then this mix could be a classic mix
rule 4 :
if 50% of the djhmembers can singalong with 50% of tracks in the mix then it's not a classic mix except if it's mixed by Hippie Torales
:-D
Bill i really like the idea, in the mixsection things sink very fast even the classic ones
but it think it's gonna be hard to maintain the 'classic' badge
it will need some moderation, i think

Don't think it's that difficult really?
Tony Humphries Mastermix - Classic Section
Major Dude Megamix - New Section
In keeping with the site, etc.

Nah, I think it is difficult.
Bill's right, a handful of dubious ones (that I'll never bother with) have been posted lately.
And what about *Cult* mixes?

he's a dj nowadays in LA

Hehe.
Although it's not posted here, I'm referring to things like Sarcastic Disco which I believe to be a cult mix not a classic mix.
A better example would be those RV Garage sets - I mean I had a skinful of that stuff at the time. Listening to them now does nothing for me at all, other dj's were far better at playing garage back then.

for me slowblow by MK7 is a real cult mix

Fair do's!
The Classic Mix section to me seems aimed at the new feel of the site, where you'd have mixes from Tony Humphries et al. so people who just browse this site can spot them there easily. Big old names, tracks, blah blah
Cult mixes, however "classic", still belong in 'Your Mixes' as they're not classic in the sense of DJ'ing History, etc.
But then, who knows... :-D

I wonder if the way to go is to leave the forum locked, and as things pop up in the Your Mixes forum that are applicable, they could be moved over here Bill.
Maybe more work for him than he wants, but at least gives some kind of control.
Or maybe just for awhile until it becomes more clear.

How about a 4 week ban for people posting unclassic classic or historically interesting mixes? :)

SimonLondon consider yourself warned. I'm sure that in your heart of hearts you hope tonight's show is going to be classic. But until deemed so by others, off to the Your mix forum.
