Nice run in now though, good for the neutral etc. Maybe not if you are a Gooner or Scouser though hahahahahaha. We have Bolton and Newcastle. Easy. :o
The two funniest moments today were seeing Drogba and Ballack having handbags about who was taking the free kick, and Drogba's reaction when he kneed Vidic so hard in the face, he put him out of the game. The cheeky fuc#er started limping...what an embarrassment he is

Fergie gambled because we could afford to lose and it was particularly neccesary given that Sky forced us to play a lunchtime fixture with little rest after Barca. So even if he'd played a full strength side you'd still have been playing with a huge advantage.
You're Centre Forward nobbled our Central Defender early in the match, you wouldn't have scored your first with Vidic still on the pitch.
You played much better than us in the first have and had a deserved early lead.
We played better than you in the 2nd half and had a deserved equaliser, yes it was gifted but a goal was coming anyway.
You were playing with 13 men on your side, Wiley and one linesman gave every contentious decision your way and conspired to keep your hopes alive by awarding you a late penalty and not awarding us the same.
A draw would have been a fair result but the officials gave you the match.
We are currently the Premiership Champions and top of the league.
The end.
On another note, apparently the entire Chelsea squad is to attend Pat Lampard's funeral this week with the exception of Drogba because of fears he might try and dive in with the coffin.

Some of what I said is open to interpretation, admittedly Ferguson gambled and lost; fair enough but I don't think the rest is bollocks, paranoid or otherwise.
I think you're being equally one-eyed to suggest otherwise.
The indesputable FACT remains, we are Champions, we are top of the league and it's ours to throw away...
or of course FA officialdom's to take away.

From when I start going to football (63-64 season) to when I moved down to London (77) there were eight teams that won it. ACTUAL FACT. There was no one dominating team there were several including Man City and Utd, Liverpool, Leeds, Derby, Notts Forest, Ipswich etc etc. Yes, the following era was massively dominated by Liverpool which also coincided with a long period of United being useless (relatively), thus compounding matters. The beginning of the end for football in this country was in 1984-85 when they acceded to the big clubs demands to be able to keep their own gate receipts (prior to this it was two-thirds to one-third split, which went someway to allowing smaller clubs to compete). It's been downhill al the way since then.
PS Chelsea: the only team that threw bananas at THEIR OWN players!(I was there for the wonderful reception they afforded Paul Canoville one delightful day down at stamford Bridge. Bunch of racists, the lot of them...

Its a fair cop, I did deliberately choose the Liverpool 70's era to compare with.

When Jimmy Hill won the removal of the wage cap could also be argued as the beginning of the end, it depends on how misty eyed and nostalgic you get and how old you are I suppose. I would say it was the beggining of the Sky/Premier League break away that was the beggining of the downfall, but I still watch it . What can you do? I'm certainly no egg-chasing enthusiast.

The old race card eh? There is no denying Chelsea fans have done some pretty horrible things in the past and incidents like that very shameful, there is no excuse for it. But hey, look at us now, we have the some richest, most Tory, new jack fans fans in the country, don't we Little Beaver? The last time I went to the Bridge, the posh wanker behind me just chatted on his phone for the second half about his arrangements for the evening. But thats the price you pay for success. Ask what the old school Man Utd fans think of the London new jack fans. Nobody's fans are perfect, but Gooners like to think they are!

Contrary to popular wisdom there are some nice people that originate from London and yes some of them even support Manchester United, I like them, they don't smell as badly as the others.

Bill's comment about the Chelsea fans' racism is, unfortunately, spot on. Canoville, just about as skilful a player as we had at the time, was relentlessly persecuted by a more-than-substantial minority of them. I remember Vince Hilaire (then at Palace) commenting on being racially abused by the Chelsea fans... until Canoville came on as sub and they turned their attentions to him instead. It took Ken Monkou to start breaking down that habitual racism, largely on the basis that he was foreign (Dutch Surinamese) and therefore, if you will excuse the expression, "Somebody else's nigger". Chelsea fans also had a revolting kinship with Glasgow Rangers fans on the basis of anti-Catholic/Fenian nationalist sentiment.

That shameful era was fortunately before my time. I first went to a Chelsea game in 1980 when I was 6 so I didn't really realise what was going on regarding the racism. It seems we are unfortunately still tainted with the reputation of being racist, but I would like to think things have changed. There was certainly no banana throwing or racist abuse when I've been therer the past few seasons.

Ask what the old school Man Utd fans think of the London new jack fans. Nobody's fans are perfect, but Gooners like to think they are!
I think I like the banter with other fans as much as watching sometimes :-)
so no chelsea were evicted for making anti-semitic gestures ( thats a nazi salute to you and i ) at white hart lane the other month and subsequently banned for life?

I have no idea Gaz, I wasn't there. If they were, then good, they deserve to have a life ban for that. All I am saying is that the times I have been to the Bridge in the last few seasons I haven't heard any racist chanting or overt racism. Whether that means that the fans have changed, or just that they don't do it anymore in case they get kicked out is open to debate. Chelsea fans do have a reputation and it is not one I am proud of, but I am still a Chelsea fan and I try to set a good example.

Seems silly to pick on Chelsea for racist fans all football fans were guilty of it back in the day. Everton and Liverpool notoriously didn't have black players for aeons and when Barnes signed from watford it was Liverpool fans throwing bananas at him not opposing fans. Chelsea have their scum element same as everyone else

I'm sorry to pick no your team in particular but there is a difference between Liverpool and Everton and Chelsea. There are historical reasons for the appalling racism in Liverpool that are linked to its past in slavery, the ghettoisation of Liverpool 8 etc. Ask Howard Gayle about he was treated in Liverpool. Yes Everton and Liverpool fans were very bad, they were a simple reflection of racism in that particular city. Some of the worst racism I've come across has been at Grimsby matches, but it's a reflection of its geographical isolation and backwardness.
Chelsea, on the other hand, attracted racist fans because of its reputation. Very few of their supporters come from anywhere near the ground (this is where Little Beaver chimes in with his proximity to Stamford Bridge). Many of them comne from the surrounding suburbs in the south of London (east towards Slough, south towards Leatherhead etc). And their attraction to the Blues was its thuggishness.
I've been to Chelsea over the past few years, courtesy of a few freebies from LB and others and in all honesty most of the racism that was there is no longer particularly evident. There are even black fans there now (you had to be very thick skinned to be black and follow Chelsea until fairly recently). But you compare, say, Arsenal or Spurs fans from back in the day, to Chelsea's and there was much greater racial inegration among their fans than Chelsea's. Why do you think that is for a city with as many immigrants in it as London does?

Its a fair point but geographical isolation and backwardnesss doesn't mean that racism in Liverpool or Grimsby is more acceptable. I can understand the cause of it there, but there are racists everywhere, even in big multicultural cities like London. It is unfortunate that they are attracted to Chelsea because of the PAST reputation, but I do feel Chelsea supporters attitudes have changed a lot and the reputation is no longer merited. You must feel a special kind of hatred for the racists that are still attracted to Millwall because of their continued overt racism from the fans. Lets hope things keep changing for the better with the Chelsea support.

I would agree that there are a fair few idiots who were attracted to Chelsea because of their reputation in the past, and it probably means we have more than our fair share, but to tar us all with the same brush is silly. There are probably more public school boys at Chelsea these days than racists. My dad and grandad were born and raised in Battersea, so I had little choice as to who to support and I'm sure I'm not alone. It had nothing to do with the reputation of the fans. I would also argue that it was the reputation for violence rather than racism that attracted a lot of the suburb supporters. If this is a heinious crime, then I would like to point a finger at the 'Cockney reds' who did exactly the same but to a team from a different city.

With the prices at Chelsea these days, it would have to be a freebie on your meagre earnings Bill...

I went to my first match at the Bridge in 90-91, in that time I never heard or saw any anti-black stuff, as LB said, Ken Monkou was playing then, and he was pretty good. Blues fans had definitely calmed down by then. And then directly after Monkou we had Eddie Newton and Frank Sinclair, who I seem to remember were widely liked and respected.
I even remember four or five years ago hearing 'Yiddo' chants at Spurs matches.

Maybe it's just the ground staff that are racist swine now?

nothing to do with the last few threads but very much to do with Spurs - a big fuck off to the Daily Mirror today who printed the story about Chimbonda going off to Villa accompanied by a picture of Zakora. Okay, they are both black but that's about as far as the likeness goes. Ignorant tabloid tossers.
Somewhat belated but Modric - what a signing :-D
