Greg might know ?

his tapes were always technically as good as Park back then. shame (imo) he went into the rave end of things. He may have had a bit more longevity if he'd have stuck to the roots and left the rave business to the spinmasters/nipper/sasha etc

He did a set of tapes (3 volumes) that were flying around Leeds around 1990/91 which he did with a Dutch DJ. Can't remember the name, but the mix series was called Jane Fonda's Workout, started off slowish and then picked up through the D90's, the third volume was called, Sweat You Bastards, spot on they were. I'll see if I can get me Mother to dust them down. Steve was class, spent a number of nights with him back around this time via the Kaos and eventually the Ark lot..

Does anyone remember David Dunne's Isometric Dance Class on Piccadilly radio?
On the very final show Nipper and Steve Williams both did guest mixes. Some quality tunes thatnight - sadly I've lost the tape. If anyone can unearth this gem I would be grateful especially the Steve Williams' mix - it began with Izit-Stories if i remember rightly.

Sounds great, knew Steve pretty well around this time. I never did get in the Roxy, got knocked back by the bouncers, who thought I was a Cockney wideboy, not sure what was worse, being from Leeds... Went to The Paradiso and had a great night on the superskunk...

Those Jane Fonda Workout mixes are really top stuff, Steve used to really nail it on..

Wasn't he playing the night [they] tried to burn down the Thunderdrome?

* I've got a tonne of Hac tapes/CD's with me here, 1989 to 91, some real beauts, will get round to posting, Someday, Someday, Some-Dayeah..

Dave Morales 1992 : Hacienda 10th birthday

Oh yes - and what a party.

IMHO it was shite, Morales was boring as hell and there was a load of gang trouble.

The Hac had completely lost the vibe by '92. Nothing compares to Hot/Nude in 88/89.

Yeah, I agree on this one.

Does anyone remember his Sat residency at the Thunderdome in Ancoats?

Well dodgy clientelle, but those 4 huge JBL stacks in each corner - awesome sound (or was it just the drugs?) ;)

My apologies for the late reply - I've only just joined the site. That would have been my last show on Picc in 1990 - the guest djs were Stu Allen, Nipper, Justin Robertson and Steve Williams - Justin, Nipper and Steve were fairly regular guests on the shows. I myself had lost my reel to rel copies of the mixes - Nipper was the only DJ to do a fully live mix on the night - but some years back, an unnamed gentleman came up and presented me wih a pair of cassettes whch contained the whole show. If I can find them, I will let you know.....

And yes Steve was mightily underrated and a lovely man...but Nipper also should not be written off as a rave dj - his deck skills and knowledge of music were superb - similiarly Stu Allen was the very first DJ to regularly feature house music on UK radio, getting lots of flak from the hip hop peeps in manchester..and Justin...well he was and is a total gentleman.

David - thanks for respopnding. That particular show was a big favourite of mine especially the Nipper and Steve Williams mixes - I'm sure I have it somewhere - I'll see if I can dig it out but if you are able to lay your hands on it I would love to get myself a copy of the whole show.
Cheers

Agreed on both counts - though Frankie Knuckles on the Friday night following the 10th birthday was a brilliant night...still remember it as if it was yesterday.

As I've probably said on here a few times before, I can probably count on one hand the number of really great nights I had at the Hacienda between 1991 and 1994.
