Hmmmm...
I think there has to be more of a grey area as to whether it's even good or not! This one is clearly good, just a bit overplayed (maybe.. and only then to crowds of a certain age).
Think GM is on the case/money with Queen!

Ive taken to digging up 'Can U Party'?' by Royal House of late, a track that was SO overplayed in its day (and in the end a big chart hit, of course) it would have once been a dead cert for this thread, being an absolute dancefloor banker for years before almost being forgotten, after Timmy Mallet made 'check this out' samples a crime against House.
Buuuuut now?... well, it's still KINDA cheesy, sure... And it definitely lifts the vibe... So I guess it ticks all the boxes ;)

If the crowd (or any other member of the "party" for that matter) have a sense of humour failure I reckon they're either taking the wrong drugs, drinking too much, deaf or in the wrong club.
People who think they're too hip to dance to record like that kinda irritate me.

OK, while we wait... here's one - having heard it on a BS mix, I played out 'Sky High' (Disco version) by Jigsaw, which literally made me rush when I listened to it at home.
I wasn't a fan of this record at all when it came out, but remember Terry Lennaine, the local Soul Show presenter, who I very much respected, being hugely into this. He obviously never played it on the Soul Show, but you could almost guarantee that if ever he was doing another show, with a more commercial playlist, 'Sky High' was in there.
He's still on radio today (a small station on Merseyside), and I stumbled on his show in the car one day. Some things never change as there it was, I couldn't believe it, 'Sky bloody High'! It was good to hear it, somewhat akin to bumping into an old friend you haven't seen since school, albeit someone who was a bit of a dickhead.
It just doesn't sit right with me personally, but there's no denying that it's a very dynamic record that clearly excites some.

Nice tale, Greg.
I had a similar deja vu flashback to our local Radio Hallam/childhood... I could never have told you who did the tune, but it came off BS's mix like a lightening bolt from the dim and distant past - and here was a record that I hadnt heard in almost 30 years I found I remembered clear as a bell... so I googled the lyrics to get the artiste name!

I know it's all subjective, but I'm a little confused as to how anyone could dismiss 'Rock Your Baby' and 'Never Can Say Goodbye', two absolutely key tracks in Disco's evolution, as cheese.
I'm not dismissing anything - I love both those records.
Frank - Welcome to the Pleasuredome sounded well good in the pink basement!
Bought it with me too but bottled it - doh!

Agree with this - amazing record!
Gloria Gaynor - Never Can Say Goodbye was massive at the end of the night at The Social.

Comment wasn't directed at you Boogie Monster, sorry if you saw it as such, must have been someone earlier in the thread who nominated 'Never Can Say Goodbye'. Your post was obviously positive, but someone must have viewed it as 'a massive cheeser' for you to mention it.

Yeah I know, but it's is a pretty dismissive term for such influential records. It's not as though it's celebrating the positive aspects of the tracks.
If the thread was called something like 'Classic tunes that are a bit cheesey to my ears', or something like that, I'd understand (as I say, it's all subjective), but to pick out tracks like 'Rock Your Baby' and 'Never Can Say Goodbye', from all the records that could have been chosen, as examples of 'Massive Cheesers that should get you bottled off but actually lift the vibe' is what I find confusing.
I've never heard either of these records previously mentioned in the context of cheese, and to my ears they're both out and out great tracks - maybe I'm out of touch with what people feel about them nowadays.
I would certainly have never considered these as the type of tunes that might get you bottled off - I'll have to be more careful when I play them in future :-).

It really wasn't meant to be disrespectful mate - it was just a joke between me and Solid that became a longer lived thread than expected.
From a personal perspective, I'm 40 - I grew up with Rock Your Baby on the stereo at home. It was the kind of thing that my old dear listened to alongside Barry Manilow and The Carpenters.
At the time I had no idea of it's place in the disco cannon.
Cheese, like you say, it's very subjective.
The next time I heard that record was in 1990 on an E at the Promised Land and sounded fucking amazing.
It certainly lifts the vibe!

That explains a lot! Heard within that context it's no wonder it had that connotation for you (although Karen Carpenter's wonderful voice rises above the cheesiest of cheese - something that can't be said of Barry Manilow).

Heard K Alexi come on with 'Two Tribes', the one with the 'Protect and Survive' voice-over, eq-ing it to hell in a Ronny style... well, he was pretty trashed by the time he went on!
It was great.
And his edit of Madonna 'Hung Up' was the most powerful DJ moment Ive experienced in some time. And STILL some people didnt get it.

Jeez, those 2nd hand copies on Discogs are WELL expensive! Like most people, I owned this when it was new, but like many, Id imagine, I sold it off at some point, believing it would never sound good again...
Must remember next time I see it to pick one up - Never bothered in the past, and you still see so many copies in the chazza shops. And blow me (as Holly Johnson would have said) it DOES sound good now, doesnt it? There's a time and a place, obviously, but yeah...

I once played Elton John's 'Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting' at best before:. It got a great reaction, somewhat bizarrely. Cheesy as hell and wrong, but in my drunken state it made sense. I also used to have a thing for 'Modern Love' by Bowie.

Get Down Saturday Night - Oliver Cheatham (Massively overplayed, but still good)
Had this from the off, and it wasn't overplayed at all, quite underplayed for may moons. Until that cunt version came out and it was re-found and the original went onto lots of Disco compilations.
Then it went into "relight my fire" territory, where cheese laden moms would fill the floor, literally. Vannessa Feltz and her chap doing it, now there's a mental image we can all do without.
