Norwich is a great place for record shops

Spin Doctors has closed, but apart from that most info in this link is correct to my knowledge:

make sure you tune into radio Norwich while you're there, it's special. when will you be in my fair city GM? as far as record shopping goes, it's definitely possible to find some alright ones here sometimes.

you need to check out the north norfolk coast too if you're doing the holiday thing... providing we ever get any good weather this year that is.

and as you know, Norwich has a superb owl sanctuary.

Dunno yet -we're in Norfolk next week on the north coast blitzing around gastropubs, crabbing, country parks etc, long walks with the dog and will slip off for a cheeky record swoop at some point! I'm hoping to find that the evils of pedestrianisation have been resisted - bloomin Join Mitchell and her big yello taxi..

Sheringham, my in-laws have a static caravan in Beeston Regis and me, the good lady and my son have spent some delightful times there over the years. The beach in Sheringham is just beautiful especially when the sun is going down..

nice pics.

that middle one with the boat - that is THE beach we used to go to... my G/parents had a house - no1 cliff road which is on the corner of beach road which leads to... that beach. just nr the bandstand, no?

saw my 'first gig' there, a sort of local long haired prog rock band:

their intro lives with me to this day:

"ladies and gentlemen... the unforgettable sound of... Crime"

genius.

The lifeboat photo was taken by the pub that is on the corner of the high st. in Sheringham overlooking the sea and theres a lovely tea shop up the road that does the finest tea n scones with real cream n jam known to man.

wicked hols - based in the picturesque village of Cley, day trips to Holkam, brancaster, Norwich with a picnic on Holkam beach, bit of sailing, some 3 mile walks, country pubs and some very nice fish and chips.. record shopping in norwich was a bit of a bust, all the record shops seem to have closed...

was fortunate enough to spend a few years on and off between Mundesley and Norwich but mostly Norwich. It's one helluva train ride from Penrith in the Lake District but well worth it.

It's one of my favorite cities I've ever been to; the beautiful mix of old and new architechture and most of the center is pedestrianised with tons of great independant restaurants and good clothes shops. Great bars to boot again mostly independant which always add a unique twist to things instead of the same old same olds which tend to dominate the centers of larger cities.

Where else can you have a choice of good Spanish, Morroccan, Thai, European, Lebanese or Japanese fodder followed by drinks in a Belgian pub or an original underground crypt in the space of 5 or 10 minutes walk of each other?

The library is a fantastic facility, and the 2 cathedrals are really special even for a non religous type like myself. Norwich is great if you're on the pull, the near-by (is that how you do near by?) uni supplies some well attractive ladies Kate Middleton types a plenty.

Also! Norwich has wireless internet for free almost everywhere, although it doesn't operate incredibly fast it's better than a dial-up connection and at least they are forward thinking enough to have the infrastructure in place. It can only get better/faster.

I love one of the local treats of mushy peas, not the dehydrated pap we get in our local chippy but fresh, sweet delicious mushy peas served with mint sauce to your taste is utterly delicious, Healthy, cheap, hot and quick. Available on several of the market stalls that operate day by day.

I am really looking forward to visiting Norwich again it really is wicked!

This thread is the jam. I was born in Norwich and grew up in Norfolk, Sheringham to be precise, on the coast. I don't go home much anymore, its 14 or so hours flight away, but I was there recently over the summer for a wedding and to see my sister's new baby etc.

A little known fact is that the new owner of the Beeston Regis Post Office also sells vinly as a side business in the post office shop front, I checked it out and there was a suprising dance 12" section, around 6 large boxes, with lots of boogie, disco and a little italo. I came away with Candido's Jingo, a nicer copy of Nitro Deluxe's This Brutal House than the one I had (I love that track), some west end, some salsoul, plenty of UK electro funk and boogie, all in all about 30 good records that I would have a hard time finding here in San Francisco and the nice guy who ran the place let me walk away with them for £20. So there you go, Sheringham Post Office (the smaller one by the playing field, not the main big one in the town).

As for Norwich there are a few used vinyl shops on St. Benedicts Street and a cluster in Anglia Square but I haven't shopped there for records in years so I don't know whats good and what isn't anymore, but then everything in Norwich is good, its just an awesome place.
