Just moved here from Manchester and am wondering where I can go get some records and what is happening in the area.

I've already checked out Fingerprints in Belmont Shore but got distracted by the sunshine and the beach, so I didn't have a real dig.

Thanks in advance.

I spent about 6 hours in there digging and digging and didn't come up with much. Records are just piled up one on top of the other though and a few that I wanted to buy I had to put back because they were unplayable. The 7"s are basically all scratched. Pity really.

They do seem to be making a US version of Life on Mars though as some guy from ABC came in and enquired about hiring it at which point the owner and some other dude had what has to be the most beardy conversation I have ever heard about what records would have to be taken down because they were released after '72. He was even going to ask the guy what month it was supposed to be, so everything could be accurate. That is some commitment to what is going to be a 10 second shot.

If he made the same commitment to ordering and organising his stock then it may just be worth venturing in there.

The second hand section in Amoeba has always produced a few items of interest when I've been there. Nice way of killing a an hour or so when you go up to hollywood.

There were about 80 people there. Harvey was superb and he seems like a decent fella as well. He played for 5/6 hours and his programming was superb. He played some absolute belters, highlight for me (and Woolfy who got very excited) was the Terje edit of Astrid Gilberto 'Black Magic'. There were a few bits that I wish I knew the name of but I'll hunt them down. He played everything from David Bowie instrumentals to Reverso 68 bits.

Highlights for me were:
Herb Alpert - Rotation
Chris Rhea- Josephine
I hadn't heard either of these on a big system

During the sunset he played a remixed version of Willie Colon's set fire to me.

CCR - I heard it through the grapevine
Voyage - I love you dancer
Def the black magic edit was nice

Then he played a series of really deep dark dub disco tracks. I asked a couple of knowledge people about what a track was and one guy just said "Harvey" with awe.

He klled it the vibe was great the environment was awesome. Headinghome puts on great parties. It was a great 7th wedding anniversary. . .Couldn't have asked for more!!!

A couple of mates of mine used to run a Northern Soul night there - pretty decent venue, actually. Reminded me of working mens clubs back in the UK.
