i was in toronto for a few years.. been back in halifax since april though

talk to Hagakure... he's in t-dot.

check out my boy General Ecclectic's various nights around town.. not so much a deep disco head as a deep funky music head..

my homey Steve Yanko also does alot of great shit... keep a look out for when he's on the decks.

he guests at synchro pretty regularly ... not sure what else is going on around town.. mike tull and andrew allsgood are usually pretty reliable doods for diverse dance floor activities.

It has also been awhile for me (lived as a FES in Toronto for a year)...but be sure to check out Jason Palma at CIUT's HigherGroundRadio show. Lots of info on proper parties (not really deep disco minded, though).
The PlayDeRecord recordstore is another good place to stop by for info on nights, not to mention to check out their stock. Make sure you bring friends to parties, as I have seen a couple big name DJ's (John Tejada, Sneak, Green Velvet, etc.) play for empty rooms.

It's so gorgeously Canadian with wooly sweaters and parkas on the dancefloor. Awww. (tear) Go have breakfast at Vienna Home Bakery for me will you?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!

When? It can't be true. It was one of my favourite breakfast spots in the whole entire world.

And to think when I was last there I didn't even go in and have a cup of coffee.

My weekend is ruined.

it just happened last year. i was REALLY upset when i walked by and there was this totally unceremonious FOR LEASE sign in the window. their eggs bombay were fantastic, and dang i'm gonna miss their homemade sausages.

did you get your name from a place on dundas? i walk by this spot all the time that is called "melody crochet".

gary, i dunno bout the smoke this time. the fact that it broke bummed me out last time. and i think it might be too much for the basement. it really works best with the mirrors, and there are fewer of those downstairs. there IS a stripper pole though. i should look into dry ice. i'm just scared someone will freeze a digit off. two drunkies burnt fingers on the smoke machine in december

It really is tragic. And I can't believe that none of my TO friends dared to tell me. I was just thinking about it the other day too.

Yes...screenname is from that place on Dundas St. My friend used to live close by. I've never been inside though.

As for the wonders of dry ice: We did smoke machine in one room and dry ice in the other at party here in Nov/Dec: the smoke machine made the room WAY too hot (Summer in Sydney) and the dry ice was cool but a bit unspectacular and kind of just hung on the floor. I think you need a fan or something. Or alot of the stuff!!!

I'll be in the area for the last two weeks of May, too - got a few family things on, but wouldn't mind trying to get out a couple of times.

Maybe if there's enough of us in town, d'you know of any bars we could take over for a DJH all-stars Toronto night, Jaime? ;)

Just moved back to TO after many years in NY so cool to see a thread with some info.

PS: its hard to look at "Bang the Party" and not first think of E-Man's legendary run of Bang the Party @ Franks in Brooklyn in 2000 ish..wow, how time flies!

Toronto is safer than large U.S. cities, but you will pay considerably more in taxes living in Canada, and the Canadian economy does not hold up against that of the U.S. Toronto is not as large or as exciting per se as NY or Chicago or the Bay Area, but it's a good city with many attractions. An accurate comparison would be Atlanta or Seattle.

There is also the issue of climate - many Europeans and nearly all Asians are unprepared for the brutally cold weather six months of the year. The U.S. has many large cities in much warmer climates.

hey guys

Thanks for the heads up. I was born and bread in TO, so its neat to see how much the city has changed/evolved.

Yeah, James (LCD) told me about me about your last party, sorry I couldn't make it out. I was out to see MG at Nav's a couple times last year. Will keep an eye out.

Cheers

James
