what you goin to visit curious?
I used to live there in the 80s/early 90s and still go visit family 1nce a year out there. I can tell a story or about Hong Kongs disco scene in the 80s, the clubs, djs etc. DD2, SOHO, YY, Propaganda, Neptune's Big Apple etc. now its all about Dragon I I think..
I know one big 2nd hand outlet, they mainly sell rock/soft rock, some 90s dance between des veux road central and queens road central on 1st and second floor, def. worth checking...I might have their business card somewhere here...how urgent?
there are some clubs/cool bars Simon Faze Action played oy there recently and told us of a nice place or two...I can get the details...
hey I'll be out there in mid March for a week or so.

Be mighty Yorkshire on tour!
My brother and I went over to HK a couple of years back with a guide to hk from cantopop. His best piece of advice was that you could get 5 meals squeezed into a day.
As for record shops we scoured a part of town following some advice from ste and found one on the 3rd floor of a building and the other in a flat on the 7th floor of another building. They looked very surprised to see us :) and there wasn't a lot of stuff bar for US and funky house.
Didn't find any second hand places...but I'm sure ste will post/pm you when he sees this thread.

Apologies for seeing the thread so late. Judging by the date - it must have been during my 'quiet' period when I wasn't on DJH much - I know that's really not acceptable.
HK is pretty poor record shop-wise - unfortunately local & ex-pat tastes tend towards cheesy funky house & r-en-b. There a couple of places worth hunting in the Soho area for the odd 2nd hand purchase - they are actually classed as second hand or antique stores. They have Chinese names - but mail me if you come to HK & I'll give you some details.
The one excellent independent store I visit is in Causeway Bay. It's called White Noise Records and it is on Canal St. East. Check out the website - www.whitenoiserecords.org (http://www.whitenoiserecords.org)
Mostly CD with a limited vinyl selection - has an excellent selection of Krautrock & psychedelic jazz & folk re-issues. Big on Jap psychedelia, too (I think the owner mostly imports from Japan). Also has an OK section on undeground hip-hop. It's a nice little store with a range of stuff run very much on the model of 'a bloke in a room with some records and a sofa' you get in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Recent pick-ups -
Sorceror's one on Tirk, Black Devil Disco Club, Bonnie Dobson's Good Morning Run, a load of Amon Duul II, Jorge Ben's Forca Bruta
