good news - the oval space was where body and soul was this year. A sweatbox, although in mid october that might not be an issue. The sound was dire for B&S, let's hope it's a different story for this
And of course this party is obviously for the plebs. The real party will be hush hush nod nod, wink wink strictly for those hallowed few in the know either in some secret location or the ln-cc basement.
C'mon chaps, where's the REAL party at?

I can confirm that the sound will nothing like it was as B&S. My friends are doing the sound and I can assure you it will be a monster of a system.

good to hear but with respect to your friends the problem was only partly the system - the space has zillions of reflective surfaces: big sawtooth rooflights that clatter and a high ceiling, if this isn't sorted somehow the sound will never be right. That said the B&S system looked woefully underpowered for the size of the space & number of bodies and was distorting like a motherfucker

Trust me, the sound will be fine. It won't distort because I don't think that Harvey will be able to get anywhere near the levels where distortion happens and it's hard to distort DnB sounds. As for the amount of people, the sound will be enough. As for the physicalities of the venue, there's not much that can be done about that, though the room will be set up very differently from B&S.
They're not using the new system in the venue, they're bringing in their own. I'm not worried about how it's gonna sound in any way shape or form.
Let's have a chat on the night and you can tell me what you think.
Funny you should say that, all the expert box boys have come out of the woodwork

bones what rig are they using a v dosc? array?
It's DnB system, not sure which series, and they do the sound for Mastermind at the Carnival and that is a sound that has to be heard. Well there using that and about 2/3 more.
Apparently, the venue's been made a bit smaller and they're setting it up very differently form B&S. I don't know the technical terms but there will be huge stacks around the venue so there are no quiet spots. I think even the monitors will be huge stacks, they'll need to be
acoustically speaking huge stacks does not equal no quiet spots....are they actually acousticians or are they a big box party sound system?
i ask because i'm curious about the gear and i have a fair bit of experience running big rigs, looks like they are using arrays to stop modal cancellation with full digital processing, if it's the v series rig it's known on the circuit as being on the bright sounding side which could be worrying in that room.....it's gonna take top gear, top acoustic treatment and a great sound engineer to make a good noise there, it's much harder than doing open air events or spaces designed for good sound.
hope they get a good run at it.
although i was under the impression harvey is having his own 'sound dudes' setting up and supplying a system.....could it be a recipe for disaster....i hope not.

Harvey and my friends go back a long way and he won't be playing unless they do the sound and Heidi told the promoters that.
I know they're gonna be delaying stacks blah blah blah but all that is proper geeky sh*t to me. Trust me they know how to set up a sound system, in a field, in a street and in a warehouse. These guys did most of the big Raves BITD.
I just can't wait to hear it.
I think their biggest worry is the neighbours.....
Keep going Bones... You ramp up the excitement with each post I read.
I seriously can't wait to hear it in full flow.

you might be able to answer this then, Dj Bones. On the BIS piece Harvey says they're selling 5,000 tickets for a 1,000 space. That true? cheers.
I've heard that too, I know another batch of tickets are going on sale at some but I have no info on how many. I hope they're not selling 5,000 tickets for a venue that holds 1,000. If they do, lots of money will be made but there'll be a lot of pissed off people.

The claim was made on the Beats in Space interview with Tim Sweeney a week or so back. Harvey said it, and Sweeney chuckled, but it wasn't cleared up as to whether it was a joke or not. Harvey mentioned that there'd be some turnover through the night, which is natural, but if they sell 5,000 tickets at 20 quid, most of those people will turn up and it'll be a joke.
if it's 5,000 sold for a 1,000 venue that's running 10pm-4am with Harvey playing all night, they are kidding themselves that people will dip in and out. There's no other venues nearby, no competition.
Any chance of having a word with your mates and finding out?
Admittedly I have neither much interest nor ANY authority but as for the 5000 figure it couldn't be more tenuosly anecdotal, why give a damn? Is this a Health & Safety Executive forum? Funny how interest in such an event is communicated so indrectly
Maybe the 5,000 will be fed in, in smaller groups and allowed to stay for a short time before being moved on to allow the next group to bask in His glory, as happens during an audience with the Queen or the Pope. This way, profits could be maximised whilst ensuring that the 5,000 are indeed, fed.

L, some context: almost everyone i speak to in this city has had so many nights spoiled by greedy promoters in recent years who oversell gigs. it's so often unbearable, no room to dance, endless bar queues and bog queues; it sucks and no one ever complains, we just pay and herd in.
An ALFOS gig at Easter in the Corsica studios was so full you couldn't move your feet to the incredible music.
i agree there's never gonna be 5,000 people at this gig, which I'm looking forward to very much, btw, but I'm interested in an answer. How many tickets will be sold?
it's not tenuously anecdotal at all, by the way, the source was the DJ, first hand. Direct quote, unchallenged.
I agree it's highly unlikely they'd sell 5,000 tickets even if they were printed in the blood of the cult leader, ut as Tim Sweeney was so in thrall to Mr Basset during the interview, the obvious follow-up question wasn't asked:
How many tickets *are* gonna be sold for this 1,000-capacity venue?

perhaps, like the big art shows in London like henry matisse or leo davinci, there will be a time based ticket system allowing people to look at DJ Harvey, from behind a couple of tourists who are right up against him, for a few minutes before moving on in frustration
