Street Corner Symphony - No Running (Street Corner)

Glenn Gunner’s Street Corner Symphony opened for business in 1991 with the demo version of what eventually became their (killer) debut single Street Corner Symphony. Over the ensuing ten years they released a series of excellent single and this their one and only album. Built around breaks, but adding their own zippy squiggles and live instrumentation on top, the songs are hardly recognisable from their disco and funk origins (still, it’s fun trying to work out which ones you recognise!). Ranging from house tempos like the horn-ladened Symphonic Tonic through to Slow Blow’s mellow spaciousness this is a classic and overlooked album.
